The Catholic Philopatrian Scholarship Foundation was founded in 1950, exactly one hundred years after the founding of the Catholic Philopatrian Literary Institute.
The purpose of the Scholarship Foundation is to provide scholarship funding to the Catholic Colleges and Universities in the Philadelphia area: Cabrini College, Holy Family University, Manor College, St. Joseph’s University, LaSalle University, Neumann University, Immaculata University, Rosemont College, Villanova University, Chestnut Hill College, Gwynedd Mercy College and St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.
The total amount of the Annual Scholarship fund is determined on a cyclical basis and dependent on how much we have to distribute from annual earnings on the total Scholarship Fund.
Typically, our award selection is based on finding candidates who possess the following attributes: Candidates must be of the Catholic Faith; have proven commitment to academic success and achievement; and financial need. The award of scholarship to any given student is done in conjunction with the student’s respective College/University Administration.
We estimate scholarship awards have exceeded $800,000 over the years. Students wishing to apply for a Philo Scholarship should contact their College/University for more information.
